Christmas Marketplace

I've been busy getting ready for the annual Christmas Marketplace craftshow. It takes place the first Saturday in November at Iroquois Ridge High School in Oakville. It's a great show. Doors open to the public @ 10:00 and there is always a line up waiting to get in.

I am hoping to do a new tutorial soon on using the CaBezels Jewellery Molds. Any suggestions? I can't believe I'm still managing to come up with new ways to use them!!

Remembrance Jewellery

I have a cousin that lives in Florida. Her name is Shelley and she recently lost her husband Jerry to cancer. I can't even begin to imagine how a loss like that feels or how anyone finds the strength to carry on after that. My heart really goes out to her.
I was very flattered that she asked me to create a couple of custom pieces of jewellery to help her to remember and honour him. She sent me pics of jewellery and symbols that meant something special to both of them and I took it from there.
Here are the results. One of them is a glass vessel that holds a small amount of cremains and the other is a two sided lentil bead that also holds a small amount of cremains. They can both be worn as pendants or they can just rest quietly in their tins.
Shelley hasn't seen these pieces yet, they are making their way there from Ontario as I write this. I hope she enjoys them as much as I've enjoyed creating them. I also hope that they can bring her some peace.

More Steam punk

Recently, my sister Sue out in BC asked if I would donate some of my jewellery for a raffle. Of course I said "yes", What else are sisters for!. She really liked my steam punk themed pieces so that's what I made for her and of course I mangaed to incorporate several CaBezels in the pendant and the earrings, I hope that whoever wins them will enjoy them. The raffle is to raise funds for their new Pomeranian Club of BC. There is a dog show this week end
Mount Cheam Canine Association Dog Show at Heritage Park, Chilliwack BC from September 25 – 27, 2009.

A quick "how to" for the CaBezel Jewellery Molds

I created this a while ago. It's just a basic slide show but it's enough to get you started.

What's Up Doc?

I really enjoy growing vegetables every summer. The anticipation, the patience, i love it all. This is the first time that I've ever tried to grow carrots! Who knew that you couldn't plant them so close together!<

Wendy Orlowski - Parole de pâte

Wendy Orlowski - Parole de pâte

I am a bit slow in posting this one! (who knew it was so easy to put the link on my blog!!)
Anyway...while I was at the Morrisburg gathering I was very flattered to be asked for an interview by Louise from the Montreal Guild.
This is the very generous posting she made on Parole de pate. There are some really great looking tuts on there as well.
(I really wish I had a better grasp of the French language!)

A blog from France

Here is a blog from France that mentions the CaBezels and has nice things to say about ordering from Margaret Scott at http://shadesofclay.com
Go take a look and see how she uses the molds.

CaBezel Jewellery Molds

This is my most recent pendant using the CaBezel molds.I created it waaay back in April before going off to Morrisburg. I've been so busy this past month that I haven't even been able to get back to my beloved clay. That's about to change though. Now that I'm all caught up on everything else I'm off to my clay room to create something new. I'll post pictures when I'm done.
The CaBezel Molds are sold on line exclusively through http:www.shadesofclay.com/

My Hoya in bloom

This plant never ceases to amaze me when it blooms. I have had this wax plant for many, many years and it is only in the last 5 years that it has started to produce flowers for me and I am so grateful when it does. Ahhh...the simple pleasures in life.

At the end of April I attended my first ever Morrisburg Polymer clay Gathering (MPCG)and I even had the privilege of teaching a class. For those of you that aren't familiar with it, it is a 4 day retreat that takes place in Morrisburg Ontario. It is hosted and organised by 2 wonderful and talented woman: Margi Laurin and Violette Laporte and this was the gathering's 7th year! It is so inspiring to be in a room filled with just under 40 like minded and talented people who are all just a little bit addicted to polymer clay. Our ages ranged from the mid thirties to 80 years young and we could all learn something from each other.

Here is just a sampling of the talent that attended.

Artists that have work in these photos include: Margi Laurin, Adria Filion, Violette Laporte, Cathy Malcolmson, Gaby Orbach,Barbara Colautti. (If I have missed you, please let me know)

MPCG is a great place to meet new people and make great new friends (like Pat and Diane).

If you ever thought that it wasn't possible for YOU to have THIS much fun...think again. Come to Morrisburg next year.
This was Patti T's first year at MPCG (I don't think it will be her last)

Margi Laurin gave a talk on journaling. She keeps the most beautiful journals using a variety of medium including watercolour. Her work is to die for, so much more that a journal. A record of her life in full colour. Margi also sells blank journals that she creates from old library books. I bought one that I hope to start using on a regular basis. (We'll see about that)

Georgia Ferrell showed us more uses for liquid clay including making a pliable fabric.
Jacey Culham the Queen of miniatures taught us how to make teeny tiny fast food favourites. Her work is marvelous. Jacey and her husband sell the art at the "One of a Kind" shows. I really wish that I had taken more pictures of these classes. I guess I was just too busy taking it all in.

Sandy Willis showed us how to have lots of "Fun with Flakes" http://blog.simple-inspirations.com
Sandy incorporated iridescent flakes, glass slides, inks, stamps and even beads!
Here are just a few examples of what people came up with.

Here are some of the great examples that the ladies came up with during the class. It can be very time consuming to come up with such an original piece so unfortuneately there were still many unfinished pieces that weren't ready to photographed yet.

These beauties were made by the extremely talented Janice V.
(I believe she gifted them to Margi and Vio)
Janice is an extremely generous person too. She is always donating something to our Southern Ontario Polymer Clay Guild. Thanks Janice.
